The summer sunshine is finally shining on a regular basis and fashion's latest season has well and truly arrived. As the seasons change, so does our behaviour; gone are the days of lazy nights in front of the TV with a warm blanket and a cup of hot chocolate. The evenings are now hot enough to move away from the comfort of our living rooms and out in to the bustling streets of Europe’s fashion capital. In this week’s blog, we at SHERENE MELINDA celebrate and introduce some of London’s most wonderful and interesting events in fashion this June.
The V&A’s latest exhibition combines the historical influence of fashion with one of our favourite accessories (after handbags!); footwear. The exhibition will bring around 200 pairs of shoes from across different time periods and the globe. It will examine the cultural significance of shoes and how fashion continues to make an impact in the everyday life of people. There will be various shoes on display for the first time including a sandal decorated in pure gold leaf originating from ancient Egypt. If shoes hold a special place in your heart then pick up your ticket for £12.00 at http://www.vam.ac.uk/content/exhibitions/shoes-pleasure-and-pain/
The London College of Fashion will be showcasing the work of their talented BA graduates across the second week of June. This event will celebrate the success of graduates from various disciplines and courses, helping to emphasise that fashion is not just about design. The show opened on Monday 08th June with a private runway (video below). From Tuesday it is open to the public between 12:00 and 19:00, if you are interested in supporting young talent and discovering the latest trends in London design then head down to Shoreditch as admission is free.
We aren’t surprised that one of V&A’s most highly anticipated events is quickly selling out. The exhibition will showcase the entirety of Alexander McQueen’s body of work, from his 1992 MA graduate collection to his unfinished A/W 2010 collection. The event has accurately upheld the dramatic spectacle that resembles Alexander McQueen’s runway shows. Tickets are priced from £17.50 and are quickly selling out. You can buy them here: http://www.lovetheatre.com/static/Alexander-McQueen-Savage-Beauty-VAM.html
The event also runs throughout July until the 2 August.
This exhibition is by Robert Leach, Senior Lecturer on the BA (Hons) Fashion Design course at the University of Westminster, and Andrew Groves, Course Director for BA Fashion Design. It will explore how archetypal garments across history have shaped contemporary fashion design. It will look at six different garments including; a Duffle Coat, a Denim Jacket, a Leather Biker, a Military Field Jack, an MA1 Flying Jacket and a Trench Coat. This event is a must see for anyone interested in the link between cultural influence and fashion or the development of fashion overtime. Admission is free.
The latest Spirit Fair is arriving this June and will be gracing the grand halls of London Olympia with an eclectic mix of London shopping, including the work of over 30 fashion designers. SHERENE MELINDA will be proudly showcasing our springbok handbags at stand C93 and we encourage you all to come down and visit. Tickets start from £16.00 and we also have a limited number of free tickets to giveaway.
We trust this blog has been helpful in raising awareness for some of the fantastic events taking place across the capital this month. Hopefully it will also help you to fill your June calendars (if they aren’t already!) and take advantage of those warm summer days and evenings. We look forward to seeing you on stand C93 at the Spirit of Summer Fair and we wish you a fantastic start to the summer!

Glorious love has been a part of SHERENE MELINDA right from its inception. Whilst a beautiful physical gift 👜👟 is no doubt appreciated, this is not the only way to give and receive love. ❤️ The "languages of love" concept was popularized by Dr. Gary Chapman in his book "The Five Love Languages". Here he talks about five love languages.
