With the new Sherene Melinda 2019 handbag collection now in stock there is a buzz of excitement as our four new designs are now on sale both in shops and online.
One of our favourites (it's hard to choose just one!) is the Hobo Bag.
Brief history of the Hobo Bag
Dating back to 1890 the term "Hobo" originates from the term "Hoe Boy" used for travelling farmworkers who travelled around America in search of work carrying a stick and bundle of belongings wrapped in material tied onto the stick, known as a "bindle".
As fashion evolved and therefore handbag designs, the old ways of carrying belongings became a source of design inspiration for the more modern day Hobo Bags. The original "bindle" inspired the Hobo bag's characteristic crescent shape, slouchy appearance and a long shoulder strap.

In 2017 the Hobo bag made a big comeback in the fashion industry as Karl Lagerfeld designed a whole range of Gabrielle Hobo Bags for CHANEL. The design of the Gabrielle Hobo incorporates a structured bottom giving it a more defined look as well as having other more contemporary inspired features.

The great success of this range of handbags brought the Hobo Bag back into the limelight and soon after many other designers followed suit, such as Valentino, Givenchy, Rebecca Minkoff and Bottega Veneta.

The day the first Sherene Melinda Silk Twill Scarves launched was a true milestone—one I'd worked toward through months of experimentation, setbacks, and small victories. The initial collection featured three carefully selected base colours, each the product of weeks of deliberation, testing, and refinement until they felt exactly right. Every scarf was hand-printed by me in the studio, a process that ensured each piece carried its own individual character and the small, beautiful imperfections that only handcrafting can bestow. Just as with our signature handbags, each scarf possesses a personality of its own, revealed through the interplay of colour, pattern, and subtle texture variations. This unwavering commitment to uniqueness and craftsmanship lies at the very heart of the brand's philosophy—celebrating individuality, creativity, and honouring the human touch behind every product we create.
Summer feels long behind us, and as the festive season unfolds, it’s that time of year when creativity and craftsmanship take centre stage. The Spirit of Christmas Fair remains one of London’s best-loved seasonal showcases — a place where individuality, story-driven design, and thoughtful gifting shine.
